What Inspires Our Vibe
Staying true to our roots has been our mission since 2009. When we opened our first location in McLean (pictured at the top of this page), it was a true family project. We restored, cleaned, and transformed an old ice cream shop, determined to preserve its quaint, neighborhood charm. To keep that local, authentic feel, we visited antique shops and nearby farms, searching for unique pieces to bring the space to life. Just as our food comes from local farms, so do many of the elements that make up our interior—from the wood used for tables and counters to the signs on our walls, each with its own story rooted in the community.

In October 2023, we gave our N Quincy St. location a fresh new look—so stop by to check out the revamped outdoor seating, updated interior, and, as always, the freshest menu in town. Opening in Ballston was a bold move for us, a local family-owned restaurant competing with national and corporate giants. But to our delight, the neighborhood embraced our unique style and menu. Plus, being right across from Mosaic Park turned out to be an added bonus, making us a perfect spot for the community to gather and enjoy.

This location was once considered “cursed” by some in the industry due to a string of failed restaurants, but we weren’t deterred. We fell in love with its quirky, wedge-shaped space, and knew it had potential. In June 2013, we opened our doors right across the street from the Courthouse Metro entrance, in a building that resembles the iconic Flatiron Building with its distinctive triangular shape. Nestled at the intersection of Wilson Blvd and Clarendon Blvd, and just across from the Government Center, it’s a one-of-a-kind spot we’re proud to call home.

In 2009, McLean natives Arita and Andre Matini, co-founders of Sweet Leaf, opened their very first location just a couple of miles from their high school. They took an old ice cream shop and restored it with care, cleaning, painting, and preserving the quaint charm of this beloved neighborhood spot. This McLean location is now considered our flagship, a cornerstone of our story and a tribute to the community that embraced us from the start.

Since Sweet Leaf began as a family project, it felt only fitting to call our Vienna location the “little sister.” It’s one of our most beloved spots—and, in our opinion, the cutest! Though it may have a smaller footprint, it embodies everything that makes Sweet Leaf special. With its huge heart and incredible support from our Vienna neighbors, this location is full of charm.

This location is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of DC, on the 15th Street NW side of the Midtown Center Plaza. It features one of our most unique and challenging layouts, but the result is stunning. Our interior seamlessly integrates with the surrounding environment, boasting a glass storefront and open ceilings that create a spacious, airy feel. The design blends industrial architecture with modern farmhouse charm, making this Sweet Leaf location as inviting as it is stylish.
